Check Your Rebate

After your install

Where Is My Rebate? How to Check Your Ontario Rebate Status

Your heat pump is in and you're waiting on the Ontario Home Renovation Savings cheque. Here's the honest answer: there is no online status portal — and before you call the program, it helps to know exactly where your file sits in the chain, because the most common stall isn't at the program at all. It's one step earlier.

Checked October 29, 2026 · Educational guide, not the program and not a government site.

The short answer

To check your status, contact Home Renovation Savings directly: 1-866-449-8510 or [email protected], with your name and home address. The program's own help page is here: homerenovationsavings.ca/help-and-support. But read the five steps below first — if your installer hasn't sent in your post-install proof yet, the program won't have anything to tell you.

The five steps your rebate actually goes through

1

Pre-approval filed — before the install

Your contractor files your Home Renovation Savings pre-approval before any work starts. This step is mandatory: no pre-approval, no rebate, however good the equipment is. You should have confirmation that it went in.

2

Eligibility confirmed

Your home and the exact equipment installed have to be eligible — the heat pump model, your heating fuel, and your home all factor in. This is confirmed at the quote and pre-approval stage, not after the fact.

3

The install happens

The system goes in. This is the date most homeowners start counting from — but it isn't the date the rebate clock starts, which is why so many cheques feel "late" when they aren't.

4

Your installer sends proof of install — the step that stalls

After the install, your installer must send the program proof of the job: photos of everything that was installed at your place, the final invoice and the equipment details. Until that package goes in, the program has received nothing, has nothing to process, and has no record to look up.

5

The program processes, approves — then the cheque

Home Renovation Savings reviews the submission and approves it. The cheque is mailed after approval — the program allows up to about 60 days from application approval. Counted from install day, two to three months is the realistic planning window.

The gap: why the program may have "no record" of you

This is the part nobody explains. A lot of homeowners wait a few weeks, call Home Renovation Savings, and hear that there's no record of their rebate — and assume something went wrong at the program. Most of the time, nothing has gone wrong there at all: step 4 simply hasn't happened yet. The installer's photos and paperwork are still sitting in their office or on a phone, the submission hasn't been sent, and the 60-day clock hasn't started ticking. The cheque isn't late. It hasn't begun.

A proper installer process closes this gap fast: pre-approval confirmed with you before the install, and the post-install proof submitted right after the job, with the install photos taken on the day. If your installer followed that process, your call to the program will be short and boring — which is exactly what you want.

Before you call the program, ask your installer these three questions

  • Did my pre-approval go in before the install? (Ask for the confirmation.)
  • Have you sent my post-install proof — the install photos and paperwork — to Home Renovation Savings?
  • When did you send it? (That date, plus the program's processing and approval time, is your real timeline.)

If the answer to the second question is "not yet," you've found your delay, and no call to the program will speed it up — the fix is your installer submitting the package.

How to check with the program itself

Once your proof is in, the program can look up your file. There is no homeowner login or online tracker, so it's phone or email: 1-866-449-8510 or [email protected]. Have your name and the home address where the system was installed ready. The official help page, including the program's contact details, is homerenovationsavings.ca/help-and-support. Home Renovation Savings is delivered by Summerhill on behalf of Ontario's Save on Energy and Enbridge partners.

What if it's been more than 60 days since approval?

Call the program and ask them to confirm the approval date and the cheque mailing date, and double-check the name and mailing address on the file — a cheque mailed to an old address or under a different name spelling is a quiet, common problem. If they still have no record at all, go back to your installer with the three questions above.

What about the federal rebate?

There is no federal status to check yet, for anyone. The National Heat Pump Rebate doesn't open for applications until early 2027; installations dated November 1, 2026 or later will be able to apply when the portal opens. If you installed before November 1, 2026, the federal rebate doesn't apply to that install — your Ontario rebate is the one in the chain above.

Rebate status — common questions

Can this site check my status for me?

No — and be careful with any site that offers to. CheckMyRebate.ca is an independent guide, not the program and not a government site. Only Home Renovation Savings can look up your file, and they do it by phone or email with your name and home address. We publish the process so you can tell where your file is stuck; we can't see your file, and we don't ask for the personal details that could look it up.

Do I need my contractor's permission to call the program?

No. It's your home, your rebate and your cheque. Homeowners can contact the program directly any time — just know that if the post-install proof hasn't been submitted yet, the program's answer will simply be that there's nothing on file yet.

My installer says it's "all submitted." How do I know?

Ask for the submission date, and then give the program a call and confirm they can see your file under your name and address. If the program can see it, the clock is running and the remaining wait is processing, approval and mail.

Not installed yet?

Then you're in the good position: you can line the paperwork up in the right order before a single tool comes out — pre-approval first, and an installer who submits the proof right after the job.
