Heat Pump Rebates in Lindsay
In town, some streets have gas. A few minutes out of town, almost nobody does — and that's where the biggest rebates in Ontario live.
Why does your street address change your rebate?
Lindsay sits on the edge of the natural gas network. Homes on gas qualify for HRS at $500 per ton — worth having, especially in a dual-fuel setup. Homes just outside the gas area, on oil or propane, qualify at $1,250 per ton — two and a half times more. Two near-identical houses ten minutes apart can be thousands of dollars apart in rebates. Your current fuel, not your town, sets the rate — which is why the calculator asks about fuel first.
What does heating cost a Lindsay home right now?
Oil homes around Lindsay report the regional pattern: three to four fills a winter at $1,500–$2,000. Propane homes watch a per-litre price that swings with the season and pay tank rental on top if they don't own their tank. Both groups take delivery from the same handful of local suppliers — and both groups are the ones the rebate programs pay the most to switch.
What's the rebate math for a typical Lindsay home?
A common in-town and edge-of-town case — a 1,200–1,800 sq ft home on oil — takes a 2.5-ton system: $3,125 Ontario plus $2,000 federal (up to $10,000 below the median income), on a switch typically running $13,500–$16,500 installed. Gas homes in town: the same 2.5 tons pays $1,250 Ontario — still worth pairing with a heat pump for the summer cooling and shoulder-season savings.
Lindsay — common questions
Natural gas is coming to my road eventually. Should I wait?
Gas expansion timelines in the Kawarthas have slipped for years, and a heat pump doesn't lock you out — if gas arrives later, your system can use it as backup. Meanwhile the top rebate rate applies to the fuel you have now, not the fuel you might get.
I own my propane tank. Does that change anything?
Yes, in your favour: no rental to escape, and a propane furnace backup becomes a cheaper option since there's no rental carrying cost. It's covered on the backup heat page.
