Can I stack the Ontario and federal heat pump rebates?

Yes. The new federal heat pump rebate is expected to stack with Ontario's Home Renovation Savings rebate. For example, a 3-ton system in an oil-heated home could receive $3,750 from Ontario plus $2,000 federally, or $5,750 combined before any higher income-qualified federal amount.

Quick answer

Yes. The new federal heat pump rebate is expected to stack with Ontario's Home Renovation Savings rebate. For example, a 3-ton system in an oil-heated home could receive $3,750 from Ontario plus $2,000 federally, or $5,750 combined before any higher income-qualified federal amount.

The short version

  • Ontario: paid per ton and set by current fuel.
  • Federal: $2,000, or up to $10,000 if the household qualifies.
  • Example: 3-ton oil home, $3,750 Ontario + $2,000 federal = $5,750.
  • Both programs have timing rules.

How the Ontario part is calculated

Ontario pays by ton and by current heating fuel. Non-gas homes are at $1,250 per ton, capped at $7,500. Enbridge natural gas homes are at $500 per ton, capped at $2,000. The system size therefore changes the Ontario cheque.

How the federal part is added

The announced federal amount is $2,000 for eligible households, and up to $10,000 for households below the provincial median after-tax income. Ontario's exact threshold has not been published, so the higher amount should always be labelled as conditional.

The two conditions people miss

Ontario pre-approval must be in place before the install, and the federal side counts Ontario installations dated November 1, 2026 or later. Stacking is not automatic simply because two programs exist.

What to do next

1

Find your heat pump tonnage.

2

Apply the Ontario rate for your current fuel.

3

Add the federal amount only as a labelled base or conditional scenario.

Can I stack the Ontario and federal heat pump rebates?

Does stacking reduce either rebate?

The announced federal program is meant to stack with Ontario's rebate; one does not simply replace the other.

Can I include the $10,000 in a firm quote today?

No. Until Ontario's income cut-off and final rules publish, show it only as an up-to scenario if the household qualifies.
